Created by an act of Congress in 1879, the U.S. Geological Survey provides science to map public lands, examine geological structures, and evaluate mineral resources, as well as conduct research on groundwater quality and availability, ecosystems composition and health, environmental and wildlife health, natural hazards monitoring and assessment, and climate and land use change. The USGS is committed to diversity and inclusion as it provides science that supports informed decision making for the Nation.
