Abstract
Crimes are not evenly distributed in space and time. The aim of this paper is to find the statistically significant spatiotemporal clusters of ten different types of crime. The study focuses on urban crime recorded in the years 2016-2017 in Szczecin – a big city in Poland (population of ca. 400,000). The following types of crime were analysed: Fights and battery (1601), Theft of property—other (7207), Robbery (196), Car theft (327), Apartment burglary (358), Commercial facility burglary (73), Car break-in (648), Burglary in other commercial buildings (1479), Drug crimes (1480), Property damage (1306). The following research questions were tested: 1. What are the spatiotemporal patterns of different types of crime in the following time spans: (1) seasons of the year; (2) working days and weekends; (3) days of the week; (4) time of day; (5) peak and off-peak hours? 2. Does the different types of crime has the same or different statistically significant spatiotemporal patterns?
