Description:
A large percentage of undergraduates spend at least part of their academic careers at a two-year college. For many students, their first introduction to collegiate level geography courses is through a community college. With a strong emphasis on education over research, contributions to advances in geographic understanding are commonly overlooked. Yet two-year colleges are often early adapters to advances in pedagogical design and research-based instructional technics. More recent initiatives to expand participation of under-represented groups in geoscience and other STEM fields by the National Science Foundation and other Federal funding sources has help expand the contributions of two-year colleges in research in higher education, including geography. This session highlights some recent research and student focused projects taking place at two-year colleges.
