Abstract
Climate change is a reality. Folk heritage-based livelihoods (FHbL) that depend on ecosystems are increasingly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change in Bangladesh. However, the Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) can play a significant role in helping communities engaged in FHbL to become more resilient. This research aims to understand how NCS could reduce climate change's impacts on folk heritage-based livelihoods and how it could help revitalize small-scale entrepreneurship and restore ecosystem services aligned with SDG 13. The study follows Participatory Rapid Appraisal (PRA) method employing the Purposive Sampling and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) techniques in Rajshahi, Bangladesh. The study conforms to an inductive qualitative thematic approach to the analysis in the light of community appraisal. The study finds that a global concern for climatic stressors is aligned with various anthropogenic determinants that cause vulnerability for FHbL at the local level. This research also explores that NCS needs to address the inclusion of local communities in transforming the adaptation strategies from anthropocentrism to ecocentrism at the local to national level. The inclusive and ecocentrism NCS could help to conserve folk heritage, recover communities' livelihoods, revitalize small-scale entrepreneurship, and restore ecosystems for better hopes. The adverse impacts of climate change could not be wished away. Work needs to be done to find NCS prioritizing ecocentrism adaptation strategy by engaging local communities. This study provides direction for policymakers to reinforce the NCS strategies for Building Back Better (BBB) FHbL in local communities that would go a long way towards sustainable futures.
