Description:
Thinking about Feminist Comparative Urban Research 1: the GenUrb Project
Chair: Linda Peake
In this panel session, we explore feminist urban approaches to comparative research with a focus on the GenUrb project (Urbanisation, Gender and the global south: a transformative knowledge network). Working across race, class, sexuality and gender, the members of this project have been conducting research for a three-year period in in a range of small, mid-sized and mega cities, namely Cochabamba, Delhi, Georgetown (Guyana), Ibadan, Ramallah and Shanghai. Our aim in this session is twofold:
(i) to generate feminist and decolonial approaches to the study of urban place-making and urbanisation through a comparative analysis of cities in the ‘global south’;
(ii) to expand on how GenUrb, a longitudinal feminist comparative urban research project, can further feminist theoretical contributions to current debates about comparative urban research.
