Abstract
Building on our collaborative work theorising multispecies justice (Celermajer et al., 2020; Tschakert et al., 2020) in this presentation we focus on the multiple, overlapping and conflicting scales of multispecies climate justice. We observe the interplay of bodily, local, national, global and planetary spatial scales, and engage with the multiple temporal scales of the species of multispecies justice. Multispecies intergenerational justice suggests we must juggle the near and far, past present and future, and multiple intersecting facets of social justice as we imagine an inclusive understanding of multispecies climate justice. In grappling with the complexities of intergenerational justice across species bounds, and the challenges of intersectional politics in planetary contexts, we draw on the distinct work of each of our collective’s members, to consider how a multispecies agenda might open up and refract the scalar imaginaries and political possibilities of climate justice.
