Description:
The advances in artificial intelligence, GIScience and high performance computing have led to the emerging field of GeoAI (geospatial artificial intelligence). Remote sensing, with the ever-increasing availability of sensors and data of improved spectral, spatial, radiometric, and temporal characteristics, is on the frontier of the developments and applications of GeoAI. In recent years, many deep learning-based solutions (e.g., CNN, GAN and LSTM) have been applied to the traditional tasks in remote sensing such as classification, change detection, segmentation and object identification. Despite the progress, the GeoAI in remote sensing is still in its infancy with many fundamental questions unanswered. For instance, how can expert domain knowledge be better integrated in GeoAI applications? How to characterize and model the geospatial uncertainty in GeoAI? How can the geospatial observations from in situ and remote sensing platforms be effectively integrated into GeoAI?
