Abstract
Although access to pediatric cancer care is known to influence care utilization and patient outcomes, little is known about the geographic access to pediatric cancer care, and how it may vary by population characteristics across the U.S. This study estimated travel time to specialized pediatric cancer care settings based on varying ADI characteristics. We also calculated per capita (pediatric population) oncologists' supply to identify areas with affluent or insufficient oncologists. This research will inform us of the distribution of pediatric cancer care centers, populations with sufficient and insufficient access, and how this geographic access may impact the health outcomes of pediatric cancer patients.
