Abstract
Costa del Sol is one of the most prominent tourism destinations in Spain. Since late fifties, the Costa del Sol has been presented and developed as one of the main tourism attractor in the country. During the Covid pandemic, there has been an increasing concern on the territorial and social effects of decades of unrestrained tourism development. Thus, social movements and critics and their more radical proposals to reform tourism (i.e. degrowth) are now more visible. Despite this, most tourism planners and policy-makers seem to continue the previous development patterns and ideological foundations. The paper describes this transitional situation and raises some theoretical questions.
