Abstract
If innovation, repair or even maintenance more recently are now widely studied by social sciences, this is not the case for the arts of ending/closing. These arts are being deployed daily in the sphere of organizations, law but also in contact with technical realities, yet they are largely neglected. It seems to us that a truly strategic approach consists in developing these arts of closing and dismantling by multiplying their fields of application and by working to make them more and more accessible and legitimate. There can be no sustenance without putting an end to the multiple sources of destruction underway. This implies inheriting all the realities that jeopardize the world's extended habitability: capitalism, organizations, economic and managerial models, industry, etc.
The essential question, today, consists in identifying and intensifying the strategies of closure already in action. It is therefore not a question of opening yet another field of studies ("closing studies"?), thereby feeding the research industry's insatiable need for newness. Rather, the point is to deploy these strategies as effectively as possible, by supporting the actors involved in renunciations all around the world and by identifying the terrains and weak sports that are and will be conducive to such developments. Drawing lessons from the work accomplished for the past 5 years (almost) inside the Closing Worlds Initiative and within the "Strategy and Design for the Anthropocene" Master of Science we will try to share the points that seem to us the most strategic.
