Abstract
This research explores what makes front yard, or visible, agriculture different from backyard agriculture, and its impacts on green gentrification, community building, and privatization of public land. Using qualitative methods this research seeks to understand the reasons people chose to garden if not for food security, if and with whom they share their food, and the ways in which visible gardens spread across a neighborhood. This research furthers our understanding of the impacts of urban agriculture on green gentrification while also illuminating the reasons people are participating in garden trends, such as raised beds in the right-of-way. Using Denver as a case study, this research looks specifically at the history of agriculture in four neighborhoods that have experienced rapid development and gentrification. Key Terms: urban agriculture, green gentrification
