Description:
Climate migration and other types of adaptation to climate change have drawn an increasing amount of attention from government agencies, climate activists, and research community worldwide. The United States government, for example, officially recognized for the first time the link between climate change and migration in a report released in October 2021. Research done by the World Bank and others estimate that tens of millions of people around the world are likely to be displaced in the next few decades due in large part to climate change impacts. Yet, to many poor and indigenous people relocation may not be feasible, therefore other types of climate adaptations are necessary. Our understanding of the complex interplay between climate change on the one hand and migration and other adaptations on the other is still limited. The papers in this session explore the impact of climate-related threats on migration and other adaptations in South Asia, one of the world regions that are most vulnerable to climate change.
