Description:
The mobilities paradigm opens up for new perspectives on the interrelationship and complexity of the current challenges and risks from climate change. Engaging with (im)mobilities on different scales from the micro level of social relations and everyday practices to macro level of global and national politics and planning helps to understand and respond to the critical challenges the world, cities and regions are facing. With the mobilities perspectives we can analyze urban lives as complex dynamics and focus simultaneously on spatiality, movement and communication.
To understand the impacts of different mobilities on everyday life, policy and planning practices, science needs to emphasise the social, material, cultural and institutional arrangements of society. This involves the investigation of human and non-human agencies as they produce and reproduce practices of mobilities strongly embedded within power dynamics and materialities. This session frames discussions on theoretical, empirical and methodological research on these issues.
