Abstract
In this multimodal paper, I draw on over a decade of collaborative research with Coast Salish and Sahtu Dene artist Rosemary Georgeson (Georgeson and Hallenbeck, 2018) to foreground the material relationalities embedded in two distinct oceanic spaces; Active Pass in the Salish Sea, and the east bank of the Ka’nón:no (Hudson River estuary), specifically 36 miles north of Midtown Manhattan. My intention in bringing together these two oceanic spaces is to underscore the enduring territoriality of the sea. I trace a genealogy of these two oceanic spaces, centering Indigenous relationships with the ocean amidst ongoing disruption and dispossession.
