Abstract
Students in the United Arab Emirates are facing many difficulties acquiring geographic mapping skills. Given the information technology revolution, it is essential to use activities-based exercises for enhancing the teaching and learning process in the classroom and attract students to the Geography field. The aim of the study is to enhance students’ mapping skills, such as keys, grids, compass rose and so forth, through the application of hands-on activities. Results indicated that students using such activities enhanced their performance in learning map skills compared to students that did not use the activities. Accordingly, integrating activities-based exercises in geographic education improves students’ comprehension of geographic mapping skills. Based on the findings, recommendations are made to relevant education ministries that are concerned with the development of the Geography education curriculum to include special mapping skills activities as part of a holistic approach to improving geographic knowledge and skills.
