Description:
This session brings together papers under the rubric of 'resurfacing'. Both a verb and an adjective, 'resurfacing' names how the hidden, invisible or subterranean come to shift meaning through queer practices of excavation, recuperation, reconsideration and/or reworking. The papers take us from abandoned warehouses and everyday streetscapes, various digital spaces, archives and scholarly spaces, and often invisibilized and privatized spaces of care and kinship. Each of the papers in this session expand not only what, but also how we know LGBT and queer lives, spatialities and knowledges come to be valued and activated, under what contexts and towards what goals.
