Abstract
This study presents two high-resolution microfossil records from Laguna Carse, Costa Rica, a landslide-formed lake in the southern Pacific lowlands region. The 7.14 m long sediment record has a basal date of 350 cal yr BP, providing unusually high temporal resolution. Here we assess changes in landscape vegetation assemblages and fire regimes through a pollen record and a microscopic charcoal record. These records show patterns of maize agriculture, forest clearance, and agricultural burning.
