Abstract
The small Himalayan country of Bhutan has conducted two 100% censuses within the last 20 years: 2005 and 2017. Data from these censuses are available to researchers at the Dzongkhag level (administratively similar to states in the United States), and are used by researchers to ascertain trends in population dynamics in Bhutan. These administrative boundaries; however, have changed between 2005 and 2017, potentially impacting researcher’s abilities to accurately compare the data between the two time periods. This research seeks to understand reasons for these boundaries changing and quantify the differences in the administrative boundaries between the years and the potential impact of the modifiable areal unit problem on migration analyses using datasets.
