Abstract
The formation of commercial districts is greatly influenced by the location of the land use in the area. Commercial districts have distinctly different characteristics depending on when visitors gather. In the classification of commercial districts in the existing urban planning, studies on land use, scale, and surrounding environment of the area were mainly conducted rather than studies on differences by time period. However, in the case of Seoul, where the formation of a commercial district itself is influenced by the members of the region, and where land use is very complicated, it is very important to include the active population in the region in the classification of the commercial district. Therefore, in this study, we focused on the characteristics of each commercial district by time period, and reclassified the commercial districts used in Seoul based on the active population located at a specific time in the area. Considering the impact of COVID-19, the study subjects were limited to foreign tourists, and the effectiveness of the method was verified by comparing the results classified based on the active population with the results of classification based on the total amount of credit card consumption occurring in the region. These results are of academic significance in that they attempted to retype in a different way than before. In addition, it is significant in that the impact of COVID-19 was analyzed in time series at three points, and the tourism industry was analyzed from a geographic point of view.
