Abstract
COVID-19 has resulted in an increase in anti-Asian incidents in many countries, especially in the cities in the United States. Many incidents occurred in public spaces, such as streets, and targeted mostly Asian women. These anti-Asian incidents accompany by anti-immigrant sentiment. Perpetrators have targeted Asian women who look similar regardless of their citizenship and origins because the majority of Asian and Asian Americans are hardly recognized in their appearances. COVID-19 related research on Asians and Asian Americans mainly focuses on different access to the resources and comparisons of mental health among different groups of people in the race. However, studies on female Asian and Asian Americans and how they perceive their emotions in space and places are less investigated. In this paper, we like to present discussions on the historical background of anti-Asian incidents and relations of fear and space in existing geography research and provide future research agenda.
