Abstract
The Foreign Names Committee of the U.S. Board on Geographic Names provides for a standard set of geographic names of countries and subnational areas outside of the United States for U.S. Government use. This presentation introduces the Foreign Names Committee and concepts such as feature designations and name types needed to understand products available through the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) GEOnet Names Server. The presentation includes a summary of products available through the GEOnet Names Server, such as text search and country files, and discusses integration strategies into mapping products. This presentation concludes with publicly available examples of Census Bureau international mapping products that use geographic names from the Foreign Names Committee.
