Abstract
A farmers market is a public and recurring assembly of farmers or their representatives selling the food that they produced directly to consumers. Farmers markets facilitate personal connections and bonds of mutual benefits between farmers, shoppers, and communities. They also carry the stereotypes of being racially monogamous and excessively expensive, and are usually located in areas where grocery options are already plentiful. I have defined a spatial distribution of farmers markets within Tarrant County. To initially locate my farmers markets, I used Google Maps, as well as other websites which document these phenomena. A farmers market must have its own website or Facebook page to be included in my research, as this is where I found the information to determine its legitimacy. With respect to the basic question that geography answers—that is, why is what where?—I have researched the presence of farmers markets in the area, analyzing what factors influence their operation. Particularly important to my analysis has been demographic and socioeconomic information from the trade areas provided by the United States Census Bureau.
