Description:

The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked the worst financial crisis in the century-long history of commercial aviation. Recovery has begun but very unevenly, and the future of airlines, airports, the many communities linked by aviation networks, and "aeromobility" itself remain in doubt. This session, which will accommodate virtual presentations, is devoted to considering the impact of the pandemic to date and prospects for the future. Some possible topics include:

1) variations in the pandemic's impact upon low-cost carriers, full-service network carriers, cargo carriers, and other airlines – including their networks;

2) the substitution of air travel with virtual meetings and other alternatives to face-to-face interaction;

3) the suspension of international routes and consequent shifts in tourist flows;

4) the prospects of leveraging adjustments made during the pandemic to reduce aviation's long-term role in global climate change;

5) the mobile body, biopolitics, and surveillance systems in the pandemic;

6) the future of the aerotropolis;

These are just suggestions. Any topic under the broad scope of aviation and the pandemic is welcome.
