Description:
Focusing on the changing trends of rural-to-urban migration in China, this virtual paper session explores the ways everyday life in both rural and urban China is being restructured and reshaped under new national policies on migration in tandem with shifting urban policies. Envisioning new social practices and spatialities, the paper session aims, through a gender lens, to explore the degree to which everyday life is being transformed in the context of a new era of urbanization. The session draws on the network of feminist Chinese urban scholars established by GenUrb project (Urbanization, Gender and the Global South: A Transformative Knowledge Network) based at the City Institute at York University.
