Abstract
Climate change, like so many environmental concerns, does not impact all areas or people equally. If climate planning is not done with equity in mind, mitigation strategies run the risk of further disadvantaging already disadvantaged communities. This presentation will focus on the modification of an equity index developed for green stormwater infrastructure planning for use in climate planning. In collaboration with the Climate Emergency Mobilization Working Group, we developed an index for Frederick, MD and modeled its potential use in prioritizing locations for tree planting to ensure that recommendations are not only feasible but also address, rather than exacerbate, existing inequities.
