Description:

The Cartography Specialty Group of the American Association of Geographers is pleased to announce that we are now accepting submissions for the 2022 Student Guided Poster Competition, formerly known as the Student Illustrated Paper Competition. This is an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to attend the AAG Annual Meeting and demonstrate their excellence in both scholarly research and cartographic design. Our panel of judges will select students to receive scholarships of $300 (1st place), $200 (2nd place), and $100 (3rd place).

In a guided poster session, each participant displays a printed research poster in addition to participating in a "lightning round" of oral presentations. More specifically, at the beginning of the session, each participant will, in turn, deliver a short (5 minute) presentation outlining their project using their poster for visual reference. Once all participants have presented, posters are left exhibited for informal browsing and discussion. Each presenter will be provided a 4' tall x 8' wide board on which to display their poster. Because this session format does not provide AV equipment, those wishing to present projects using web-based maps may, in addition to their poster, show their work using personal devices.
