Description:
Inspired by the investigative documentary of increasing suicides among farmers in India, “Nero’s
Guest” by P. Sainath (2009), the Food Justice Scholar-Activist/Activist-Scholar (FJSAAS)
Community of Practice, within the AAG Geographies of Food and Agriculture Specialty Group,
is organizing a session that delves into what it means to be accountable to the communities that
Scholar-Activists and Activist-Scholars collaborate with. We want to bring together diverse
scholarship related to robust methodologies of care necessary for working, researching, and
writing with community/activist partners, and the experiences of scholar-activists/activist-scholars.The intent is for participants to share ideas about how to best use this work to further the impact of collaborations and improve community resilience after research has concluded.
